Fans of Trevor Noah’s Daily Show are used to him making light of the American political climate. Noah grew up in South Africa during apartheid and frequently treats the state of the union as quaint almost as if it’s a gripping TV show the country can’t get enough of.
In a CNN interview where he described American politics as a story, Noah named Trump as its “antagonist,” adding that “we don’t know if he’s the villain or the hero.” And which story might this be, exactly?
“If this was Game of Thrones, Donald Trump would be the White Walkers,” Noah said.
“I think the first mistake people make is that they think of it as a Trump story; I don’t,” Noah told CNN. “I think of it as the American story, and Donald Trump is one of the characters in the American story.”
By the same logic, Game of Thrones is the story of the seven kingdoms, and the White Walkers are characters just like everyone else.
“Everyone is going to be dealing with it, but it’s not the story of the White Walkers,” Noah added in his CNN interview. “We want to know what Daenerys is going through, we want to know what’s happening with the Lannisters. We want to know what’s going on with the Starks. That’s the story, and everyone is going to deal with this force that is coming for them.”
A fair point, but it doesn’t address the fact that in Season 7, the White Walkers are literally coming to kill everyone. Their war with humanity is a classic us-vs-them in which, as the show once foretold, you either win or you die.
