“You know nothing, Diane Lockhart!”
Okay, that iconic Game of Thrones catchphrase may not have exactly the same ring to it when applied to Christine Baranski’s Good Wife character instead of Jon Snow, but given that the world of Chicago law can be every bit as cutthroat as life in Westeros, it seems apropos.
Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie will be trading her Wildling winter wear for a power suit in CBS All Access’ Good Wife spinoff, the network announced Wednesday. Leslie will play Maia, Dianes goddaughter, who joins her firm just after passing the bar, and is a key part of Dianes plan for the future.
Were thrilled to have Rose on board, said executive producers Robert and Michelle King in a statement. We needed a young actress who could hold her own with Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo, and Rose is perfect. Shes real, shes strong and she can play comedy. If we designed an actress from the ground up, we couldnt have done better.
The new series will pick up one year after the events of the final broadcast episode of The Good Wife, which ended its seven-season run in May. In the new streaming series, an enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Maia (Leslie), while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockharts savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, they join Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) at one of Chicagos pre-eminent law firms. In addition to Baranski and Jumbo, Good Wife alum Sarah Steele will reprise her role as Marissa Gold, the snarky daughter of Alan Cumming’s Eli Gold.
The CBS All Access spinoff will debut in February 2017 with a special broadcast on CBS, before moving exclusively to the live-streaming service.
