The cast took center stage at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 21 for a panel moderated by everyone’s favorite dead character: Hodor, aka Kristian Nairn. He began the panel with a brand new trailer covering the next two episodes of Season 7, a first though partly because this is the first time has actually been on the air during SDCC.
If you missed the trailer, here it is:
Moving on to the panel itself, attendees includedAlfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), Conleth Hill (Varys), and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark).
It also included Alfie Allen’s puppy, who might have stolen the show simply by existing.
After opening Hodors, Nairn got right into the questions. First up: Everyone’s favorite ship: Tormund and Brienne. With only Christie in attendance for the pair, she got to field it. She said,
I don’t think at the foremost of her consciousness is a value system based on how men appreciate her. But who doesn’t like being appreciated as both, really? But I don’t think that’s what she’s invested in. She’s finding it awkward. But underneath any awkwardness is potential secret enjoyment.
The other major ship also got a question: Missandei and Greyworm. Jacob Anderson said he hoped they found happiness in their weird relationship, and he believed Dany would not only bless the union, but be the officiant.
As for the new Hand of the Queen, while Missandei and Greyworm aren’t totally comfortable around Tyrion and his drinking, Emmanuel agrees he should be Hand instead of her, since Tyrion knows the enemy and is much more experienced with being a Hand and the political landscape.
Sophie Turner got asked if she’s still being played by Littlefinger. She claims she isn’t. (Let’s hope so.) As for her views on marriage, they’ve changed drastically since Season 1. She called Sansa woke. (Really. That happened.)
Meanwhile, Liam Cunningham was asked if he’d really kill Melisandre if he saw her again:He wouldn’t hunt her down like Arya. But he would put her in a shallow grave somewhere. Damn.
Big group question time! What laws would the cast pass if they were to make it to the Iron Throne? A rundown of the answers:
- Christie: That women can be knights.
- Allen: The brotherhood that Beric is a part of be made throughout theland so everybody could come back to life.
- Hill: That Comic-Con is free.
- Turner: Unlimited carbohydrates, that’s what I want.
- Cunningham: Free Dornish wine throughout the land.
- Emmanuel: Free language lessons.
- Bradley: That maesters have to empty out their own chamber pots.
- Nairn: I would make it illegal for one person to mount another and make him carry him. WELP.
The talent was also asked who they wish hadn’t died on the series. Both Christie and Hill both named Catelyn Stark, but other answers ranged from Ned Stark to Khal Drogo to Hodor.
By the way, Cunningham had the best joke of the day, that the prequel would be called Better Call Davos. I’d totally watch.
