We’re taking this with a pinch of salt until Ryan Murphy says it himself, but it looks like we know what the next series of American Horror Story will be about.
Slenderman. Internet horror, Slenderman.
According to US Weekly, Murphy and Falchuk have their eyes on a script that has already been written about the creepy character:
“They have to buy the rights. Then theyre going to figure out the cast from there.”
Emma Roberts, Lady Gaga, and Jessica Lange have all reportedly expressed interest in appearing in the next series, and we can’t imagine a season of AHS without Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe. So that’s the cast sorted…
And Slenderman is a great topic for American Horror Story. Created in 2009, he’s a tall, thin figure with a blank, featureless face. He stalks and abducts people – usually children – and he’s become a popular figure in online, supernatural fiction.
People get so engrossed in stories of Slenderman that they almost forget he isn’t real. Sometimes, to tragic effect. In 2014, two 12-year-old girls held down and stabbed one of their classmates 19 times. When asked why, they said it was so they could become proxies for slenderman. And another 13-year-old, also inspired by tales of Slenderman, once attacked her mother with a knife.
American Horror Story is famous for using real-life inspiration– whether it’s the murder of Elizabeth Short, or the atrocities committed by the New Orleans socialite who inspired Madame Delphine, and so Slenderman is a very fitting choice.
So, will this actually be the source material for season six? Let us know what you think in the comments.
