‘Game of Thrones’ fan discovers sneaky clue in Sam’s book about dragonglass

Warning: Contains spoilers from Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 1.

If there’s one thing the Game of Thrones Reddit community is insanely good at, it’s deciphering quite literally the tiniest of clues.

If there’s a blurry reflection in a trailer, they’ll decipher it. If there’s even the vaguest chance that a battle map could hint at how a story will play out, they’ll decipher it. In the Game of Thrones world, no detail is small enough to remain unexamined.

The latest clue to fall under the microscope is Samwell Tarly’s book about dragonglass. On Monday, Reddit user Beastmodekait started a thread about some text in the book that caught their eye.

There are plenty of words missing, but here’s a rough transcript of what we can see:

The second paragraph is the one to pay attention to particularly the sentences that mention “dragonglass”, “cure”, and “ingestion”.

Is it possible that, while Sam is busy hunting for the most effective way to weaponise dragonglass against the White Walkers, he may end up stumbling across its medicinal properties?

And who do we know that’s currently in serious need of medical attention, and who just so happens to be in the same place as Sam?

Yep: Jorah Mormont.
