American Horror Story just wrapped Season 6, already was renewed for Season 7 and now has a confirmed order for Seasons 8 and 9.
The FX miniseries, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, launched in 2011 and explores a different creepy theme each season.
American Horror Story launched the modern limited series revolution and as evidenced by the most recent installment Roanoke – it remains as vital today as when Murder House stunned audiences six years ago, said FX CEO John Landgraf in a press release.
Each new chapter is a cultural event, beloved for every new twist in imagery, style, cast and plot,” Landgraf continued. “We are thrilled that Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and the entire creative team will continue to deliver the groundbreaking, celebrated American Horror Story for years to come.
American Horror Story: Roanoke received almost 11 million total views and was the top limited series among adults 18-49 and 18-34.
When Ryan and Brad came to us seven years ago with the idea for a horror series structured as an anthology, with a group of actors returning year after year, in different roles, settings and time periods, we were in awe of the sheer originality and ambition of their vision, added Fox Television Group Chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman. Theyve since delivered six fantastic installments which have rightfully attracted millions of viewers, critical raves and dozens of awards. Ryan and Brad are to be congratulated on this remarkable multi-year pickup and we are grateful to John Landgraf and our partners at FX for their extraordinary support.
Season 7 is expected to debut this fall, and according to Landgraf, “will be shrouded in super secrecy,” much like Roanoke was.
“Ryan has yet another really innovative idea for how to do something fresh and different with the franchise that audiences havent seen before,” Landgraf said during his exective session at FX’s Television Critics Association press tour. “We know explicitly what next season is about, which is the seventh; we dont know what the eighth and ninth seasons are about … Im really excited about Season 7 and utterly confident that Seasons 8 and 9 will be unique and interesting.”
